Celebratory moments and student recruitment squads – SPARK Report
06 Dec 2017
The Future Index supplies the University with regular reports that demonstrate current trends, and give inspiration in the world of brands and marketing. The latest issue focuses on a key event in the Higher Education calendar – results day.
Particular highlights featured in this issue:
- The use of social media to capture celebratory moments, as well as offering advice for those going into the clearing and adjustment process. Aston University students, for example, not only found out that they had got a place, but also discovered their house had been geo-fenced too, giving them their own personalised Snapchat filter to celebrate and with and use to share their news.
- Student recruitment communication at the University of Twente, and their departure from a more formal, marketing-team led approach to creating ‘squads’, ambassadors and micro-influencers.
Other innovations from higher education (HE) marketing include:
- The Entrepreneur Club at ETH Zurich created cubes where students ate, slept and brainstormed on various mobility, EdTech and FinTech challenges.
- Student support and mental health are two very important topics, and Arden University is leading the way in addressing these issues by becoming the first University in the UK to launch Studentline.
Finally, some great examples from outside the HE sector:
- In Brazil, Virtual Reality headsets were taken into a nursing home so that residents could experience their biggest dream – from touring Barcelona to watching a live ballet performance. This idea would make a great experience at a university open day.
- And DeLoitte have created an interactive experience which offers career guidance to those making choices about their future. The website helps visitors to explore their roles and the ones that are right for them.
