Meet your new colleagues

06 Dec 2017

Communications and Marketing teams have recruited a number of new people in a variety of roles

University of Manchester

The University has welcomed a number of new communication and marketing colleagues since the last newsletter.

They include our interim Director of Communications and Marketing Michael Greenhalgh, who will lead the function while we find a replacement for Terry Hudghton, who retired last month.

Michael’s previous career falls into two areas, around the home – with Senior Marketing and Board roles at Magnet, Wyevale, Focus and MFI – and in the classroom – at our own Alliance MBS as well as the University of the Arts in London, University of Bradford and Robert Gordon University.

He said: “I am looking forward to continuing the great work of the team and helping to update the Communications and Marketing strategy as we move into 2018.”

Marianne Webb has also joined us as Head of Communications and Marketing in the Faculty of Humanities.

Previously Senior Communications Manager at Network Rail, Marianne said: “I’m looking forward to working across the communication teams in the University to attract students and research by showcasing what makes the Faculty of Humanities unique, and the real impact that our staff and students have on the world.”

Alistair Beech is our new Senior Social Media Coordinator in the Division of Communications and Marketing.

Alistair has worked in Higher Education for almost five years, most recently as a Senior Digital Marketing Officer at the University of Central Lancashire and previously in Digital Communications roles at Keele University and the Environment Agency.

He said: “I am aiming to build on the team’s success and work with colleagues across campus to ensure our brand and reputation is enhanced through professional and engaging social media use. We want to achieve excellence in our work and support the University’s key goals with a coordinated and distinctive social media presence.”

Other new appointments include Samantha Franklin, Social Responsibility Project Officer, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health; as well as graduate interns Hannah Jordan, International Student Recruitment; Alex Boulding, Web and Digital Content; and Freya Karrman-Bailey and Ciara Wright, Social Responsibility.

The Faculty of Humanities has welcomed Sian Cummins, web editor; Matt Strong, Communications and Engagement Officer for Policy@Manchester; and Andrei Rydzkowski, Digital Marketing Officer covering maternity leave at AMBS.
