Grants and Awards
CHERIL FUNDING AND AWARDS: Promoting 'TEACHING EXCELLENCE' and 'PROMOTING' teaching excellence.
CHERIL oversees two competitive awards: CHERIL Grant Awards and the Teaching Excellence Awards. Awards are now closed for this year.
The awards align with our aim to promote teaching excellence through research and the sharing of best practice. In addition, our activities also promote teaching, as a route to career development; which aligns closely with University promotions criteria for academic staff.
CHERIL Grant Awards *up to £20,000
- The CHERIL Grant Award is a competitive research grant open to University of Manchester staff. The grant facilitates research into aspects of teaching, learning and assessment, which enhance teaching and the student experience at University of Manchester. CHERIL usually awards 10-14 grants per academic year; up to £20,000 (although smaller grants are more usually awarded). For more information, and how to apply, please see the CHERIL Grant Award call
Teaching Excellence Awards: * £5,000 bursary
- The Teaching Excellence Awards are a competitive financial award, which celebrates outstanding teaching. The TEA winners are decided by a nomination and selection process at faculty and directorate (e.g. library services) level. Nominations usually open in January, with winners announced in the summer. Award holders receive a £5,000 bursary (to be spent over a 3 year period) to fund enhancements to their teaching; for example, attending training events or conferences. For more information about the TEA and the nomination process please see the Teaching Excellence Awards.
