MRC CASE – 2019 Studentships

We are pleased to announce that the MRC industrial Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering (iCASE) studentship renewal bid was successful and we have four studentships (two funded by MRC and two match-funded by FMBH) to commence in September 2019.

We are now calling for expressions of interest in advertising a studentship through this scheme. In order to meet MRC’s criteria for funding, projects must fall within one of three areas: ‘Precision Medicine’, ‘Harnessing Health Data’ and ‘Materials and Medicine’.

Already have a collaboration with a company?

If you have an existing collaboration, please submit an expression of interest (EoI) including the name and email address of the proposed supervisor from the company, company name, size, outline of research (no more than 6-8 lines) mapped to one of the themes noted above.  This should be emailed to

Looking for a company to collaborate with?

The MRC iCASE Management Board are keen to establish new collaborations to build on the existing portfolio of companies working with our academics and have circulated an iCASE flyer to potential partners asking interested companies to come forward.

If you would like to get involved with the MRC iCASE studentship scheme, but don’t yet have a company to work with, please submit an expression of interest (6-8 line summary of your research, mapped to one of the themes noted above) via email to and we will attempt to pair you with a relevant partner from our new collaborator pool for subsequent co-creation of a studentship project.

We anticipate that the academic-company relationships nurtured though this scheme will develop into longer-term strategic partnerships, thereby fulfilling a Manchester 2020 key performance indicator, as well as further strengthening our position in these research areas.

The deadline for submitting your expression of interest is Thursday 28 February 2019. Due to the tight timeframes, expressions of interest submitted after this date will not be accepted. The MRC iCASE Management Board will decide which EoIs should progress to submission of a full Project proposal by 15 March 2019. The deadline for submitting Project proposals will be 30 April 2019.

Please contact the Doctoral Academy Recruitment & Admissions Manager, Tasleem Hanif (55537,, if you have any queries about this process.
