BBSRC DTP & CASE Scheme
Project Proposals must be submitted to the FBMH Doctoral Academy as stated in the timeframe below.
If you are interested in collaborations between the University of Melbourne (UMelb) and University of Toronto (UoT) and would like help in identifying a collaborator, please complete the BBSRC DTP Research Collaboration Interest Form and return to Tasleem Hanif, no later than Monday 12 July 2021. We will send this collated information to UMelb and UoT to help with some initial ‘matching’ of supervisors across both institutions. MRC DTP & CASE Scheme
Project Proposals must be submitted as stated in the timeframe below.
MRC DTP3 offers three avenues for Project Proposals:
Supervisor Led Project: The supervisors collaborate to write the project proposal. Subject to MRC DTP Board approval, this is advertised, the supervisor screens applicants to select the best candidate who would be competitive in the MRC DTP interview pool and submits a student nomination form.
CASE Supervisor Led Project: The academic supervisors collaborate with industrial supervisors to create a project proposal, which is submitted along with a CASE Partner Support Form. Subject to MRC DTP Board approval, this is advertised, the supervisor then screens applicants to select the best candidate who would be competitive in the MRC DTP interview pool and submits a student nomination form.
Student Led Project: Supervisors indicate their willingness to collaborate on projects that consider topics within the MRC DTP’s remit. The supervisor profile is then included under the Student Led Project section of the DTP website. The supervisor screens the applicants who approach them to propose their project to ensure that they are competitive in the MRC DTP interview pool, after which they work together to formulate a project, with that student being nominated for that project. Subject to MRC DTP approval the project and candidate will proceed to interview.
Supervisors willing to collaborate on a Student Led Project must provide the link to their profile page to be included on the website by Monday 6 September 2021 to Tasleem Hanif.

North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP)
The North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership holds an annual competition for Studentship funding. Candidates may apply for funding towards master’s and doctoral (1+3/2+2) study, or doctoral study only (+3/+2). The NWSSDTP does not fund standalone master’s programmes. The NWSSDTP welcomes applications for part-time study.
Applications must be submitted via one of the 19 subject pathways, for an eligible programme. Details of eligible subject areas and programmes can be found on the pathway pages.
The NWSSDTP’s fully-funded ESRC studentships cover payment of tuition fees for the duration of the studentship (including master’s and training years for 1+3 and 2+2 studentships) and an annual maintenance stipend (full-time: £15,609, part-time: £7,804.50 in 2021/22). Further information about the studentships, including residential eligibility, can be found in the Standard Studentship Application paperwork. The deadline for submission of applications is 1st February 2022.
EPSRC DTP PhD Studentships 2022
EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership PhD proposals are invited that fall within any of the EPSRC themes and address the points highlighted in the themes strategy or Grand Challenges.
The Faculty strongly encourages project proposals with a CASE partner. To covert an EPSRC DTP to a CASE Studentship the Industrial funding component should be a third of the EPSRC funding allocation. To be an Industrial CASE sponsor, companies must have established UK-based research and/or commercial production capability. Please contact the Doctoral Academy should you require further guidance.
Further information including project proforma can be found below. The deadline for submission is Wednesday 6 April 2022.
