University to use recycled paper

04 Dec 2019

From Monday, 6 January recycled paper is to be used across the University

The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) have endorsed the use of recycled paper for use across the University. This will take effect from Monday, 6 January.

Products have been selected which are available for delivery from the University’s stores.

Is there anything different about the paper?

The shade of paper is of a lower whiteness than other paper due to the fact it doesn’t contain any brightening agent and is suitable for all internal uses (including copies of notes and papers for meetings) which can then be recycled using normal recycling channels.

It is made from post-consumer printed waste such as newspapers and magazines.  The paper is de-inked, without bleaching, before being packed in recycled material. Overall, the manufacturing process uses fewer natural resources and less energy, as well as reducing CO2 emissions.  This is one of the initiatives that is helping the University with its pledge to support the Government’s climate declaration.

What if I need to use brighter paper?

Should you have a requirement to use a brighter paper (e.g. for external documents), this is also available from stores.

How to order

Please order directly from stores by emailing James Robinson and Noel Ogden clearly stating the account code to be charged and the full address for delivery.

Deliveries are also available on a weekly basis (minimum quantity five boxes of 25 reams) to outlying areas within the Manchester area.

A limited range of paper will be available to order via eMarketplace for remote locations such as Jodrell Bank, Dalton Nuclear Institute.
