Healthy volunteers needed for nasal cavity study

Description

Volunteers are required for participation in a research study investigating the bacteria present in the nose.

Sampling will include the insertion of a swab into each nostril (opening of the nose) and nasal cavity (approximately 2 cm depth into nasal cavity) in order to collect the bacteria naturally growing at this body site. This nasal swabbing will be performed by you to minimise discomfort. You will also be asked to complete a short questionnaire asking details of your sex and ethnicity.

The process is estimated to take only ten minutes and no further participation is required. This investigation has been granted ethical approval by the University of Manchester Research Ethics Committee.

You are under no obligation to participate, however, if you are interested and fulfil our inclusion criteria (please see below), please contact myself and you will be provided with a participant information leaflet outlining the study.

We are looking for healthy adult volunteers who are:

  • Over the age of 18 and under the age of 65
  • Not using large doses of commercial probiotics consumed orally (greater than or equal to 108 CFU organisms per day as indicated by the product labelling). Please note, ordinary dietary components, such as fermented beverages, milks, yoghurt do NOT apply.
