Postgraduate Taught Degree Regulations

The Postgraduate Taught Degree Regulations were updated in October 2022 for implementation from the 2022/23 academic year, with a further update made in April 2023.

Updates to version 3.9 (April 2023):

  • Updates to ‘Appendix A: Postgraduate Degree Classification Scheme’ under the section on ‘Consideration of postgraduate masters students within the boundary zone by mark distribution’ to remove references to all course units having to have been passed at first attempt, when considering students in the boundary zone for the award of Distinction. This was to tie in with the update made in October 2022 in paragraph J39.
  • A new line was also added to the bottom of this section to say: "Please also see paragraph J39 for details of arrangements for programmes with specific accreditation requirements."

Updates to version 3.8 (October 2022) relate to the following:

  • Inclusion of a new section H: 'Treatment of deferral marks' to clarify the arrangements in relation to marks given for deferrals (resits as a first attempt, due to approved mitigating circumstances)
  • Amendment to new paragraph J39 to confirm a decision made by the Teaching and Learning Strategy Group (TLSG) and Senate that students with credit awarded as a result of referral of compensated marks are now eligible for the award of distinction, unless the programme has specific accreditation requirements which do not allow this.
  • Resulting updates to paragraph numbers
  • Updates to the Document control box.
