This team provides support and guidance for accounting matters and issues related to finance systems. In addition this team is responsible for a number of external reporting activities, including the preparation of the University Financial Statements, the HESA Finance return, professional finance training, and liaison with external auditors. The Finance helpdesk sits within this team and operates a broad support service to staff performing finance related activities University wide.
This team provides guidance to professional finance staff engaged in accounting processes, and can offer advice on accounting queries, use of finance codes, month end and year end processes, audit requirements, financial control processes and exception reports. Queries can be addressed in the first instance to Jill Roberts (Financial Controller).
This team produces the University’s annual Financial Statements as well as the HESA FSR return and any queries relating to information from these returns can be supported in this team. In addition, this team will also support any queries about the University’s Financial Statements or HESA return, and the annual external audit as well as smaller audits. The team also undertake a number of other reporting activities.
Professional Development for Finance Staff
The team coordinate and deliver a quarterly training programme for professional finance staff in finance roles within the University, to meet their training needs and ensure that they are kept technically up to date and professionally supported. This is also enhanced by the finance website and on line training provision which is delivered from within this team.
Finance Systems and Support
The Finance systems in operation within the University are generally supported within this team. The largest of these is Oracle Financials, and the overall operation of the system and system related training is overseen by this team. The team also support developments of the system, for example new reporting requirements and system changes related to amended business processes.
The Finance helpdesk is a broad support service supporting colleagues who are carrying out finance related activities in their day to day roles. The help desk can assist with general as well as finance systems related support issues. The helpdesk is also responsible for control checks and carrying out a range of processes on the various finance systems, for example, month end close and setting up user’s access.
