Do schools outreach from your desk

19 Sep 2017

I'm a Scientist and I’m an Engineer are online STEM outreach competitions that get scientists and engineers talking about their work with school students across the UK

You are invited to apply to take part in the next online events, running 6 until 17 November!

You can apply for both events if you cover both fields! Open to postgraduate researchers and academic staff. There are specific places available for people related to Microbiology, Gravity, Cells and Stress in I'm a Scientist, and Transport, Health and Artificial Intelligence in I'm an Engineer. There are also lots of places in the general zones for any kind of researcher. Closing date is Monday, 2 October.

What did previous participants say:

“I knew the event was going to be fun but I vastly underestimated how much fun. The questions asked were both fun and challenging, keeping me on my toes at all times and giving me a fresh perspective and enthusiasm for my own work."

Dan Smith, chemist at Cardiff University

Taking part is an exciting and accessible way to develop your communication skills and gain a fresh perspective on your work, all while showing students what science and engineering are really like.

Everything happens online so taking part is flexible and can be done from your desk or smartphone. There’s no need to prepare activities or take a day off, just log in during the event to answer online questions from students and engage directly with classes alongside fellow STEM professionals in live, text-based, chats. Students then vote for their favourite scientist or engineer, who wins £500 to fund more outreach activities.
