New skills at the Faculty of Science and Engineering - action from Staff Survey 2017

Leading Change Development Programme

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is equipping managers with the skills and tools required to lead their teams through change. The Leading Change Development Programme (LCDP) is a positive action from Staff Survey 2017 to help make a step change in how we manage change.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is in the midst of a number of significant changes which will be delivered over the coming years including, developing and implementing a new structure, known as Faculty Review, the Student Lifecycle Project and moving to the new engineering campus (MECD).

The role of the Team Leader is vital to the success of any change so in October 2017, the Faculty launched a new programme to equip managers with the skills and tools required to lead their teams through change - The Leading Change Development Programme (LCDP).

Around 100 PSS managers took part in the programme which included a launch conference in October 2017 and a two-day residential facilitated by organisational change and development specialists, Designed4success. This covered areas such as understanding and managing responses to change and developing communication, engagement and coaching skills.  Their learning has continued through “Action Learning Sets” giving them the opportunity to support each other in addressing challenges in their respective areas, and further develop their skills in coaching others.

The programme concluded with a reflections conference in July 2018 but has been seen as just the start of a new network of managers within the Faculty who will continue to work together to lead their teams through change.
