GDPR: Your five minute guide

18 Apr 2018

Are you ready?

GDPR

On Friday, 25 May 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force. The new law is all about person identifying information (PII) and the way that this is collected, stored and used by organisations, including us.

It is important that we do the right things for those who have given us their data. It is our duty to ensure that we collect, process and store the data appropriately. In addition, if the law is breached the University could face significant fines.

We have been preparing for this for some time and have been working with various parts of the University to ensure we are compliant. In addition to this, it is important that every member of staff is clear about their own personal responsibility to ensure that they are compliant with the new legislation.

To help you prepare, we have created a five minute guide as well as a StaffNet site with further information, guidance and resources. Should you have a specific query relating to your area of work, speak to your designated Information Governance Guardian in the first instance or contact the Information Governance Office for advice.
