The annual awards for social responsibility are now open for nominations

University Chancellor Lemn Sissay

The annual Making a Difference Awards for social responsibility are now open to receive entries, with a closing date of Wednesday, 1 February 2017.

Coordinated by the Office for Social Responsibility, the awards recognise and celebrate the many different types of social responsibility achievements of the University’s academic, professional support, library and cultural institution staff, students, alumni and external partners.

The awards cover a wide range of contributions to the University’s social responsibility strategy, with categories including sustainability, public and community engagement, teaching and research impact on society, widening participation, social enterprise, volunteering, responsible processes and equality and diversity. Colleagues can nominate themselves or someone else for an award.

Previous winners and highly commended recipients state how receiving a Making a Difference Award has often helped develop their project, highlighted the impact of their work, provided well-deserved recognition to those involved and in some cases secured further resources.

The awards culminate in a high profile awards ceremony, hosted by the President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Nancy Rothwell in May 2017. This key event raises awareness of the many ways individuals and teams across the University make a real difference to the social and environmental wellbeing of our communities and wider society.

Professor Rothwell said: “I would encourage everyone who is making a positive contribution to society to enter the Making a Difference Awards for social responsibility. The awards help communicate our significant impact on society and is a highlight event in the calendar.

  • The deadline for entries is 1 February 2017.
  • Candidates can self-nominate or be nominated by a third party.
  • Individuals and teams can enter.
