Show your support for our LGBT community

22 Aug 2016

Although the University will not have an entry in the Pride parade this year, there are still many ways in which we can all show our support to the LGBT Community

ALLOUT (The LGBT Staff Network Group) have organised a number of interesting events:

  • Come and see a gallery display of Olympians and sports people from varying backgrounds who have encountered different challenges. This will be on the ground floor of both the Alan Turing Building and the Arthur Lewis Building from Tuesday, 9 August until Monday, 22 August.
  • Wednesday, 24 August (1pm), Beyer Lecture Theatre:
Sarah Newport will host an interesting talk Q&A session about the Hijra/third gender community in India. Read more and book tickets at Eventbrite: India's Hijra/third gender community
  • Tuesday, 6 September (4pm), Alan Turing Building:
A discussion/debate/networking event with the theme ‘Is Pride still important?’ This will be attended by Manchester’s Lord Mayor and other noted speakers. Read more and book tickets at: Eventbrite: Is Pride still important?

In addition, we will have banners displayed on Waterloo Place and Sackville Street with the Rainbow flag flying at different locations - why not tweet your pictures to @UoMLGBT.

Become an ALLOUT Ally

This month is also the opportunity to become an ALLOUT Ally.

Allies are defined as ‘individuals who do not identify as LGBT and who believe that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people should experience full equality in the workplace. We welcome allies from all areas, disciplines and sections of the University.
