University agrees Staff Survey action plans

18 Dec 2015

Local management teams to act following strong response to our second survey

Your Voice, Our Manchester

The Staff Survey 2015 action plan has been agreed with four University-wide themes:

  • Workloads and work-life balance
  • Managing change
  • Communication
  • Effective leadership and management

The first three themes are to be managed by individual Faculties and PSS, Library, Cultural Institution units, as the issues identified by the survey differ greatly across the range of local units and so require locally tailored solutions.

The fourth theme will be facilitated by the Staff Learning and Development Unit, in conjunction with Deans, Heads and Directors.

Other sub themes, which did not necessarily embrace all parts of the University, but were nevertheless given major emphasis, were identified as:

  • Workspaces (ranging from implications of MECD through to enabling adequate staff ‘break out’ spaces)
  • Research staff careers
  • Conflict and bullying at work
  • Disabled staff discrimination

Local action planning leads in the Faculties, PSS, Library and Cultural Institutions, have worked in conjunction with Deans, the Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer and appropriate Vice Presidents to produce Action Plans, which have now been approved by HR Sub Committee.

The Head of Learning and Development is producing an enabling plan to demonstrate how the theme of leadership and management will be addressed.

Staff survey results and action plans for your own area are available from the Head of your organisational unit. The delivery of actions outlined in the plans will be monitored by the University HR Sub-Committee of the Board on a bi-annual basis.
