Research involving human subjects / Clinical trials
The University has insurance available in respect of research involving human subjects under several insurance policies. Cover under these insurance policies extends (as appropriate) to University staff acting in the course of their employment, University students undertaking their studies under the supervision of University staff, and members of University ethics committees acting within their powers.
Clinical Trials insurance provides compensation for non-negligent harm to human research subjects occasioned in circumstances that are under the control of the University. Cover is normally limited to research undertaken in the United Kingdom, and also excludes cover for participants based abroad (e.g. overseas respondents to internet-based surveys).
