University invests in central teaching spaces

Teaching spaces across the University have benefitted from renovation

Central Teaching Spaces based within the Directorate of Estates and Facilities have launched a number of refurbished flexible teaching spaces with the latest technologies. 

The programme used £2.5m from the University’s Merged Endowment fund to target medium sized spaces that are regularly used and could be renovated to demonstrate leading specifications and conditions.   

Phase 1 of the programme was completed in time for Welcome Week 2018 and consisted of 14 rooms in Ellen Wilkinson Building and Simon Building.  

Phase 2 and completion of the programme will take place between January and May 2019. This next phase will refurbish a further five rooms in Simon Building and the Samuel Alexander Building. 

Each refurbished room features:

• furniture that can be easily moved to facilitate group learning, workshops and other events;
• AV and media resources;
• additional monitors and screens that allow staff and students to engage with ‘Bring Your Own Device’ technology (this technology will be installed in additional teaching spaces throughout 2019).

In addition to this £2.5m programme the Sackville Building, The Mill, Mansfield Cooper, Coupland 3 Building and George Begg buildings have also benefited from changes to décor, furniture and AV.
