Academy for Education and Professional Development Celebration Event
The Academy for Education and Professional Development held its inaugural event on 16 March at Christie’s Bistro. Hosted by Professor Gillian Wallis, Vice-Dean for Teaching, Learning and Students, the event celebrated the achievements of colleagues who have recently achieved awards for their teaching and learning and who contribute to the delivery and management of FBMH’s undergraduate, postgraduate taught and CPD programmes – including those from outside of the University such as in the NHS and Industry.
Special congratulations go to those who were recently awarded Higher Education Academy Principal Fellowships, Fiona Kevan, Aneez Esmail, Lucie Byrne-Davis, Ray McMahon, Isobel Braidman, Ann Wakefield, Caroline Bowsher, Patricia Cartney and Nigel Henderson whose expertise and best practice has been recognised nationally.
Speaking at the event, Professor Judy Williams, Deputy Association Dean for Staff Development commented:
“This has been a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and promote good practice to enhance teaching, learning and the student experience. The Academy for Education and Professional Development will be coordinating professional development activities for all those involved in our FBMH programmes. Members of our Academy’s Executive Team are keen to have input and suggestions for future activities.”
About the Academy
The Academy’s mission is “to ensure consistent high-quality development and delivery of educational programmes with student experience at their heart”. A key goal of the Academy is to support all those who contribute to FBMH programmes with opportunities to enhance and evidence their teaching and learning expertise. The Academy has initiated a new Professional Development Programme that will focus on four domains within the Teaching and Learning Framework – Student Experience; Teaching Quality and Delivery; Learning Environment; and Teaching Practice.
Components of the Development Programme will be delivered online as well as through masterclasses and face-to-face discussions, allowing participants to tailor their learning to suit their needs. Each month there will be a focus on a different topic with the focus of April being on Digital Literacy.
All are invited to our first Learning at Lunch Seminar, which will take place at 12-1pm on 4 April, in the Michael Smith Lecture Theatre, when Andrew Whitworth, Director of Teaching and Learning Strategy at the Manchester Institute of Education will deliver a presentation on “Talking the Digital Habitat into Being”. If you wish to attend you can register HERE via Eventbrite.
